#BeautyBioBoss Series: Amber Venz Box

BEAUTYBIO BOSS BABE
Amber Venz Box
Not many people can say they monetized a social media platform, giving shape to an entirely new virtual shopping experience enjoyed by millions of people across the globe every day.

Enter, Amber Venz Box, the co-creator and President of RewardStyle,

aka the minds behind our favorite app that emails us insider shopping deets seconds after we heart an influencer's Instagram post with the footnote, “liketk.it.”
Creating RewardStyle with her S.O. and now husband, Baxter Box, Amber’s own journey with fashion blogging helped steer this duo toward solving the blogger’s “middleman” income debacle. Influencers who were creating premium content and driving up retailer sales were routinely cut out of the profits until RewardStyle launched in 2010 and delivered that missing piece of technology enabling bloggers to start reaping financial benefits.
Helping us find our favorite designers dresses is only one of the many reasons we love this native Texan, mother of two and tech entrepreneur who navigates her busy days with the help of Nerd Ropes and Air Head Extremes.

Current title/occupation?

Co-Founder + President of rewardStyle, LIKEtoKNOW.it

What time do you wake up?

I have three little ones so my days start pretty early. I’m usually up by 6:30am.

First thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

I will read a devotional, write out my top three priorities for the day, or listen to a podcast while I get ready.

Self-care hacks (in whatever form self-care takes for you)?

The Cherry app! It is on demand nail services that can come to your office or home. I can be on a conference call and be getting my nails done.

Power statement/personal motto?

Don’t wait for what you want to fall in your lap. Go make it happen for yourself!

#1 trait you look for when interviewing?

At rewardStyle we are always looking for people who are three things: hungry, humble, and people smart.

What singular item in the history of the platform has driven the most sales?

Spanx Faux Leather leggings are up there. They have been the top selling item on Black Friday/Cyber Monday two years running!

Best career advice you’ve ever received?

The most valuable education is gained outside of the classroom. Once you choose your industry, work on all sides of it and work for the best.

What do you do to develop your team’s skills?

Over the last two years we have really built out a powerful bench of senior leaders and executives to grow, lead and develop our teams. We are always putting on lunch + learns, bringing in outside experts and offering experiences to enrich the environment where we work.

Guilty pleasure?

Nerd Ropes and Air Head Extremes. They get me through long meetings.

Proudest moment in running your company?

Starting rewardStyle at such a young age and being able to contribute in its growth and evolution. Baxter and I have worked around the clock for more than nine years building the business and what started as a project in our tiny apartment, is now a large, multi-national business with more than 250 team members in offices around the world.

Advice to anyone thinking about starting a business with their S.O?

Set boundaries! There has to be a difference between your work and personal time and lives.

Fallback career?

Fashion Designer

Which city in the US is the most stylish?

Dallas, of course. There is a really unique sense of style here — it’s a little bit southern, but has its own Texas flair.

Fave BBS product and why?

My favorite product is the quench! I use it every morning and night- so hydrating

What appeal does Dallas hold for start-up tech companies?

Texas is a very business-friendly state, so by staying here, we've been able to attract people from all over the world. It's also less expensive to live and build a brand here, so we are able to invest more of what we earn into our employees and grow our business that way. And finally, we want to help our city grow as a fashion and technology destination- a city that can attract world-class talent.
