Current title and occupation?
CEO & Chief Creative Officer at Caitlin Wilson
You’re originally from the Bay Area. What brought you to Dallas?
I've lived all over! I went to college in Utah, studied in France, London, and when I was first married my husband and I lived overseas - in Dubai and Hong Kong for two years. I launched my textile line when my husband was in business school in Philadelphia. We now call Dallas home, and it was the perfect place for our second store and HQ!
How did you discover your passion for interior and product design?
I've always been entrepreneurial and over time I realized how much I loved design. In 2007, I was writing a blog and someone found me and asked me to decorate their house. Shortly after we moved overseas and I was so inspired by our travels that I wanted to create my own product line. I drew so much inspiration from the cities we lived and visited that in 2011, I designed my own textiles and launched CaitlinWilson.com
In one word, how would you describe your personal style?
Feminine-Chic (that is two words, but hyphenated so it counts as one right?)
We understand that patterns and colors are your forte – where do you find inspiration when designing textiles or a new home décor product?
I created my textile line when we were living abroad, and I was inspired by patterns and textures from other cultures and the different countries where we lived—London, Dubai, and Hong Kong. I began to blend florals and complementary patterns that give a room personality and character. I still use this ethos in my inspiration today. We recently launched a collaboration with Provence Poitiers. We visited the famous chateau and every single detail there struck a chord.
Your artistry has appeared in multiple magazines & books worldwide; do you have an editorial feature you’re most proud of?
The very first time I was published in a national magazine, I was beyond thrilled. House Beautiful featured my bedroom in Philadelphia shortly after I launched my first collection. That was definitely a 'pinch me' moment!
Care to share your most challenging design project to date?
I'm in the midst of it. We're currently renovating my own -100 year old home in Dallas. We were considering tearing it down, and I think a lot of buyers would have replaced it with a new build, but I was determined to keep the history of the home while adding my classic twist.
You’re a business owner, wife, and mother – what’s your top tip for achieving work-life balance?
If you figure this one out let me know! Really, I always live by I am a mom and wife first, designer and business owner second. It helps keep my priorities straight when I remind myself of how quickly my babies grow up. I have always been a night owl so I tend to work from bed a lot of nights.
Work is done for the day, the kids are in bed – what’s the first thing you do?
Skincare then SLEEP.
We must ask, favorite BeautyBio products?
I swear by the Ultimate moisturizer & R45 The Reversal.
