The Viral Head Spa, At-Home

The Viral Head Spa, At-Home

Posted On

By now, you’ve probably seen the TikTok viral “head spa” trend, emphasizing the importance of treating our scalp as an extension of the skin on our face and body. This relaxing ancient Japanese treatment is an over-the-sink process that consists of scalp massages, oils, hydrating masks, and leave-in serums. Basically, like a scalp facial at home, tackling concerns like dermatitis and hair loss. After all, a healthy scalp is the key to achieving and maintaining healthy hair.

Play some relaxing background music, light a candle, and breathe in your favorite essential oils to set the vibe right for the ultimate experience; the head spa at home.

1. Get started with scalp prep.
Start with a pre-shampoo treatment to soothe and balance the scalp. Our go-to pre-treatment is the Briogeo Scalp Revival™ Pre-Wash Scalp and Hair Oil, its rosemary blend and lipid-rich, tingle-free formula is gentle, yet delivers scalp-stimulating and hair-strengthening benefits with no greasy residue.

2. Treat your scalp to a head massage.
After you’ve applied your favorite scrub or hair oil as directed, use your fingertips or a scalp massager to boost circulation. Our favorite is the Sephora Scalp Massager designed to stimulate the scalp while providing a relaxing head massage. For best results, hold the massager in your palm and gently press rubber tips to the scalp with medium pressure and massage in circular motions.

3. Shampoo your hair.
Finding the shampoo that’s right for you is essential for maintaining a healthy scalp and hair.

Our all-time favorite shampoos include OUAI’s Detox Shampoo, a clarifying formula with apple cider vinegar and keratin that deeply cleanses away dirt, oil, and product buildup, and the Briogeo Scalp Revival Scrub Shampoo, an exfoliating shampoo scrub rich in charcoal, coconut oil and a tea tree + peppermint oil blend. Recommended to use once a week, this formula is effective in helping detoxify, moisturize, and soothe the scalp by reducing flakiness, itchiness, and redness.

4. Apply a mask.
While using your daily conditioner works great, we can't rave enough about this hydrating Gisou Honey Hair Mask for when your locks need some extra nourishment. For best results, apply a generous amount to damp hair and leave for five to seven minutes, then rinse with cool water.

5. Combine microneedling with a leave-in scalp serum.
We saved the best for last BeautyBio Rejuvenating Scalp + Fuller Hair Therapy Set includes everything you need to complete the final step of your head spa with an elevated twist. The GloPRO® microneedling Scalp Attachment reawakens dormant follicles, helps stimulate the hair growth cycle, accelerates product absorption, and encourages stronger, fuller-looking hair in just 60 seconds a day. Teaming up with the weightless, nutrient-rich Healthy Scalp Serum formulated with 5.5% FolliGRO™, a complex packed with superfoods, camellia leaf, and rosebay extract, they work together dissolve product buildup, relieve itchiness,, reduce flaking, balance excess oil production, strengthen the hair shaft to help combat hair loss.

For the best results with the viral head spa, use the GloPRO® Scalp Attachment on clean, product-free hair. Part hair sections and gently glide the tool back and forth over the scalp parallel to part lines for about 5 seconds per target area. Continue until all desired areas have been treated. Then, use the precision tip on the Healthy Scalp Serum to help part hair again while applying 2-3 drops directly to the scalp on each target area, massaging gently. Repeat until all desired areas have been treated.
